[Google's Quarterly Revenue and Profit Miss Expectations Amid Pressure on AI Investment Returns] Odaily Planet Daily reports that Alphabet (GOOG.O), Google's parent company, announced quarterly revenue and profit both below market expectations, indicating that the company has not yet generated sufficient returns from its artificial intelligence business to justify its massive investments. Alphabet stated that for the three months ending September 30, excluding royalties paid to partners, revenue was $111.2 billion and net income per share was $2.12, both below Wall Street expectations. Google has been racing to build AI infrastructure for itself and its customers, driving capital expenditures to record levels. These investments have helped Google become one of the top providers of computing power to AI companies such as Anthropic and Meta. Google is also developing its own AI models and integrating them into consumer-facing products such as its search engine, YouTube, and Gmail. However, these efforts have so far not yielded corresponding returns relative to the scale of the spending. Alphabet's stock price fell as much as 7.9% in after-hours trading.
