[Utah Files Criminal Charges Against Kalshi and Two Co-founders on 13 Felony Counts] According to Utah media outlets Deseret News and KSL, the Utah Attorney General's Office filed criminal charges on Wednesday against prediction market platform Kalshi and its co-founders Tarek Mansour and Luana Lopes Lara, totaling 14 counts, including one second-degree felony (mode of illegal activity), 12 third-degree felony counts (promoting online gambling), and one Class A misdemeanor (promoting gambling). The charges allege that an undercover agent, after confirming their location in Utah, placed bets on 12 sporting events through Kalshi. Kalshi responded that this action was a "serious overreach of authority, and that Utah is clearly playing politics," and stated that they will appear in court. Previously, the U.S. Federation of Trade Unions (CFTC) filed a lawsuit against Utah this Monday, arguing that federal law has exclusive jurisdiction over event contracts.
