[“New Bond King” Gundlach Urges Fed: What Are You Waiting For? It’s Time to Raise Rates”] On October 29th, Jinshi Data reported that “New Bond King” Gundlach stated that he is currently unclear why the Federal Reserve is hesitant to raise interest rates further. “What are you waiting for? You just upgraded your economic assessment,” he said. He was referring to Fed Chairman Warsh’s comments on the strong macroeconomic environment at the press conference following the policy decision. Gundlach stated, “We are moving towards a 4% overall CPI. Commodity indices are rising in a bull market, and I don’t understand why the Fed is so reluctant to act.” “I think the Fed’s current policy pace is somewhat behind the times,” Gundlach said. He pointed out that the Fed’s current policy rate of 3.75% to 4% is significantly lower than the current two-year US Treasury yield of approximately 4.7%. He believes this indicates that the Fed needs to raise rates further from the current level. “If oil prices don’t fall significantly, I think the Fed must raise rates in December,” Gundlach said.
