[Spiral: Weak Demand for Bitcoin Payments, Not Technological Insufficiency] According to a report by BeInCrypto on October 28th, Spiral, the Bitcoin development team at Jack Dorsey's Block, stated that the main problem facing Bitcoin payments is weak demand, not technological insufficiency. Spiral noted that while the Lightning Network is operational and over 1 million merchants in the US can accept Bitcoin through Square, actual usage is low. Federal Reserve data shows that by 2025, 9% of US adults will buy or hold crypto assets as investments, but only 2% will use them for payments, a figure that has remained between 1% and 2% annually since 2021. Spiral pointed out that Stripe, Shopify, and Coinbase are integrating stablecoins, and Coinbase's AI-powered agent payment protocol x402 settles approximately 99% of payments in USDC. On October 27th, Spiral publicly solicited proposals to increase Bitcoin payment adoption within five years.
