[Economists Create "AI-Powered Fed": Simulating Seven October Policy Meetings, Choosing to Pause in Five]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that an AI-driven simulation system has already voted ahead of the Federal Reserve's upcoming interest rate decision. The results show that in five out of seven simulations, the system chose to maintain the current interest rate, while supporting a rate hike in the other two, largely consistent with current market expectations that the Fed will pause rate hikes this week.
This AI simulation system, named "Sim Fed," was developed by Tara Sinclair, chair of the Department of Economics at George Washington University, and Sophia Kazinnik, a research scientist at Stanford University's Digital Economy Lab. The two researchers have spent approximately one and a half years developing the system and will publish preliminary research papers by the end of 2025. Currently, the project is still in the refinement stage.
It is important to note that Sim Fed's voting is a simulation experiment conducted by researchers and is not a real Fed decision. The actual monetary policy decision is expected to be announced at 2:00 AM Beijing time on Thursday.
