[South Korea Fines Apple and Google a Combined $47.5 Million for App Store Payment Issues] According to AppleInsider, after years of investigation, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) has fined Apple and Google $15.5 million and $32 million respectively for their App Store practices. A South Korean law passed in 2021 stipulates that app stores cannot prevent developers from using third-party payment systems. The regulator determined that while the two companies nominally allowed third-party payments, their excessively high fees effectively hindered developer adoption. The regulator also found that the two companies delayed app reviews. Under the ruling, the two companies must allow external payment links within apps and improve their review processes. Previously, the UK rejected Apple's appeal against a $2 billion App Store fine.
