[Anthropic Acquires One-Person Biotech Company Mithril to Launch In-House Drug Development] According to Jinse Finance, Anthropic announced on its official blog the acquisition of Mithril Medicine—a biotech company with only one employee developing two rare muscular dystrophy therapies. The acquisition price was not disclosed, and founder Cody Tranbarger has joined the company. According to an unreviewed technical report, Tranbarger, using Claude to coordinate contracts, logistics, and experiments with 11 external laboratories, advanced a candidate therapy from concept to positive results in mouse experiments in less than 18 months. The therapy focuses on LAMA2-related congenital muscular dystrophy and could enter human clinical trials as early as the end of 2028. Simultaneously, it launched its own drug development and announced early results with six institutions: Big Hat, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Divergence Labs, Enveda, Generate Biomedicines, and The Column Group. Divergence Labs generated approximately 35,000 antibody designs using Claude within a month; Enveda used Claude to review 1,061 pages of production records, identifying seven human-overlooked issues, reducing the review time from nearly 26 hours to within 3 hours. It stated that its research remains primarily preclinical, with most drugs not yet entering human trials. This acquisition was announced the day after it filed for an IPO on Nasdaq.
