Why is it that when trading ETH, some people can only watch their floating profits slip away, while some whales are able to actually pocket the profits?
According to previous monitoring, a whale bought ETH at an average price of about $1,647, and then sold 12,468 ETH at an average price of about $2,368 after the price rose, realizing a profit of about $8.99 million. The price of this batch of tokens increased by about 44%.
But the most worthwhile aspect of this transaction to analyze is not just buying low and selling high.
After taking profits on ETH, the whale did not continue to chase the price higher. Instead, it transferred approximately 20 million USDC to Hyperliquid to establish a long position in crude oil, with a notional value of approximately $22.4 million.
This reflects an important trading logic: after making money, there is no need to be attached to the original assets.
Once the expected returns are realized, traders can reassess opportunities in other markets instead of keeping their funds in ETH simply because they are familiar with it.
Of course, long positions in crude oil also carry the risks of price volatility and leverage, and switching positions across markets does not guarantee a profit on the next trade.
What's truly worth learning isn't copying what whales buy, but understanding when they realize profits and when they reassess risks.
