The trend of vertical integration in large-scale model labs is evident. Today, Anthropic announced a deep collaboration with six institutions (BigHat Biosciences, Bristol Myers Squibb, Divergence Labs, Enveda, Generate Biomedicines, and The Column Group), leveraging Claude's expertise in antibody design, CAR-T therapy optimization, manufacturing documentation review, and clinical trial planning to accelerate drug development. Significant early results have been achieved, such as over 10-fold increases in antibody binding affinity, an 89% reduction in documentation review time, and the generation of 35,000 antibody designs. Furthermore, Anthropic announced the acquisition of Mithril Medicine and the launch of its own drug discovery project targeting rare childhood muscular dystrophy. From concept to positive results in mouse experiments, the project took less than 18 months, with Claude handling a significant amount of scientific and operational work, demonstrating the potential of AI in the entire drug development process. From an industry perspective, OpenAI, Anthropic, Isomorphic/DeepMind, and ByteDance's large-scale models are all deepening their involvement in life sciences, with a growing trend towards vertical specialization in the medical and pharmaceutical life sciences fields. These large-scale models are all independently developing their own solutions, moving from the model itself into the specific workflow. From an investment perspective, AIDD and Ai-Bio still offer significant opportunities. The influx of industry giants isn't just about jumping on the bandwagon; it reflects their recognition of the potential for major breakthroughs.
