[SK Hynix Announces 100 Trillion Won Shareholder Return Plan as Memory Shortage Expected to Continue Until 2030] According to TechFlow, on October 28th, SK Hynix (SKHY.O) announced a more than sevenfold increase in quarterly profit and announced an additional 100 trillion won (approximately US$75 billion) shareholder return plan to be implemented in 2026. The company reported that operating profit for the quarter ending September reached 83.3 trillion won (expected 76.7 trillion won), and revenue rose to 104.6 trillion won (expected 98.3 trillion won), both record highs for a single quarter.
Driven by supply shortages, the company's operating profit margin remains at a historical high. The company stated on Wednesday that it expects the memory chip supply shortage to continue until 2030. On the other hand, the company's analysis suggests that the increasing technical difficulty of advanced processes and the considerable time required to build new semiconductor factories limit the expansion of supply. The company anticipates that in the short term, the application of artificial intelligence by enterprises and consumers will drive storage demand, while in the medium to long term, applications of physical artificial intelligence such as autonomous driving and robotics will become the driving force for demand growth.
