[RBNZ Decision Preview: 25 Basis Point Rate Hike Almost a Certainty] According to Deep Tide TechFlow on October 28th, based on data from Jinshi, multiple institutions have previewed the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) interest rate decision today, with most predicting a 25 basis point rate hike. New Zealand's current inflation level is 3.7%, higher than the 1% to 3% inflation target, and Standard Chartered Bank stated that there is still a significant chance of further rate hikes. A Reuters survey shows that 22 out of 27 economists expect the RBNZ to raise interest rates by 25 basis points in October. A majority of the RBNZ's shadow committee members also recommend a 25 basis point rate hike, but a few members prefer to allow previous rate hikes more time to have an effect on the economy. Disagreements remain regarding the subsequent tightening path. TD Securities, ANZ, ASB Bank of New Zealand, and Westpac Bank expect interest rates to rise to 3.50%, while Bank of New Zealand expects the peak to be 3.75%. In a Reuters poll, 13 people expect the official cash rate to remain at 3.00% by the end of the year, while 9 people expect it to rise to 3.25% in December.
