[OpenAI's Statement Claiming "ETH is Fake" Causes Crypto Community to Misunderstand Ethereum's Fault] According to a report by Jinse Finance on October 27th, Decrypt reported that OpenAI released a 67-page paper claiming its AI model has found a way to refute the exponential time hypothesis (ETH). This hypothesis, proposed in 1999 by computer scientists Impagliaazzo, Paturi, and others, argues that the 3-SAT problem cannot be solved much faster than exhaustive search, and hundreds of papers have used it as a premise.
OpenAI claims its model found a counter-proof on October 16th, and completed stepwise formal verification using Lean software on October 17th. The resulting deterministic algorithm can count all satisfyable assignments of the 3-SAT in sub-exponential time.
The paper also states that this result does not mean that all NP problems have sub-exponential algorithms; P and NP problems remain unsolved. Due to the similarity of the abbreviation to Ethereum, the paper has sparked misinterpretation and ridicule within the crypto community.
