On Tuesday, US stocks and bitcoin:native both rebounded, led by technology and chip stocks. Oil prices fell for the second consecutive day, and sentiment towards AI also recovered somewhat. Last week, investors were troubled by the rapid spending on AI. After Monday's close, Bank of America, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, and Blackstone announced a $63 billion financing arrangement to purchase Broadcom's chips and network equipment, which will then be leased to Anthropic. This funding finally gave the industry some hope for fundraising.
The 10-year US Treasury yield has remained around 5% for the past two days, mainly due to still high oil prices. Even with Brent crude falling, data released today shows that regular gasoline has only become slightly cheaper by a cent per gallon in a week, while highway diesel has risen to $6.35 per gallon, more than $2.60 more expensive than last year. Such high diesel prices make it difficult to reduce costs for freight and businesses.
The Fed's interest rate meeting is early Thursday morning. Although the market believes there won't be another rate hike, such high oil prices and skyrocketing inflation make it difficult for Warsh to have a dovish reaction. So even if there's no rate hike, the Fed might still deliver a strong response. Furthermore, the core PCE data is released Thursday night, and an increase is highly probable, making a December rate hike almost inevitable.
Bitcoin is indeed quite resilient, returning above $80,000. However, I've been relatively cautious this week, trading below $78,000, mainly out of concern for potential market confidence issues, especially with only two days left until the interest rate meeting and the core PCE data. I'm being cautious for now. If BTC can remain stable at $80,000 this week, I plan to be more aggressive.
