Trump stated that the US will receive 1 million barrels of Venezuelan crude oil. However, expecting this shipment to significantly lower gasoline and diesel prices is not so easy.
The US Energy Information Administration projects that the US will consume approximately 20.6 million barrels of oil and other liquid fuels per day by 2026. At this rate, 1 million barrels would only be equivalent to about 1 hour and 10 minutes of US consumption.
Even if the US government actually receives this crude oil for free, Americans won't automatically get free gas. The crude oil still needs to be processed into gasoline and diesel by refineries before reaching gas stations.
The retail price reduction would be very limited. Trump is now resorting to deception for the midterm elections.
