[SK Hynix's US subsidiary Solidigm plans to invest $45 billion in a new NAND flash memory factory in the US, subject to approval to ship equipment to its Dalian plant] According to Bloomberg, sources familiar with the matter revealed that Solidigm, SK Hynix's US subsidiary, is in talks with the US Department of Commerce regarding a planned $45 billion investment in a new NAND flash memory factory in the United States. Solidigm hopes to first obtain US permission to ship new equipment to its Dalian, China plant for upgrades. The company stated that increased revenue from the Dalian plant will be directly used for the construction of the US plant, and the upgraded technology can also be used in the US plant. Solidigm also indicated to the Department of Commerce that the total investment in the US plant could eventually approach $100 billion. New York State is among the candidate locations, with construction potentially starting as early as next year. Both Solidigm and SK Hynix stated that no concrete decisions have been made yet. Last week, SK Hynix canceled its approximately $10 billion IPO plan for Solidigm.
