[CFTC Plans to Increase Commitment of Traders Report Frequency to Twice a Week by Year-End] According to Jinse Finance, on October 27th, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) stated that it is working to increase the frequency of its Commitment of Traders (COT) report from once a week to twice a week by the end of this year. The report, currently released every Friday, shows the buying and selling activity in the commodity markets and distinguishes between hedge funds and other asset management institutions and commercial trading participants. Producers use the report to make hedging decisions, while speculative traders use the data to observe changes in market positions and whether related bets have become overly concentrated. CFTC Chairman Michael Seliger stated last week at an agricultural commodities futures conference in Kansas that the plan to increase the report's frequency stems from demand from the agricultural sector.
