[Anthropic Warns Energy Supply Bottlenecks Could Slow AI Expansion; Some Costs May Be Incurred Before Computing Power is Fully Deployed] According to Semafor, Anthropic warned in its initial public offering (IPO) prospectus that power supply difficulties and rising energy costs could slow the expansion of its AI infrastructure. The company expects already high energy expenditures to increase further. The prospectus points out that power procurement negotiations, regulatory approvals, construction delays, and cost overruns could all affect data center construction progress. At the same time, AI companies may be required to bear more of the costs of grid upgrades, even if the relevant facilities are not directly used by them. Anthropic specifically disclosed that due to arrangements in some power and infrastructure contracts, the company may still incur related costs even if the expected power supply capacity is delayed or ultimately not delivered. Tight power equipment supply, rising project financing costs, and partner execution risks could further drive up operating expenses.
