[AI computing power company General Compute raises $100 million in Series A funding, led by Abstract Ventures and others]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that AI computing power startup General Compute has raised $100 million in Series A funding, led by Blackbird Ventures and Abstract Ventures. The company's post-money valuation has reached $800 million, a significant increase from its $60 million seed round in May. This funding comes from a $100 million order from a large client.
General Compute focuses on AI inference computing power, using dedicated chips from Nvidia's competitors. It has already reached a $400 million chip procurement agreement with SambaNova, and other suppliers include Positron and Cerebras. Unlike the traditional approach of building large data centers, the company deploys AI computing power by leasing data center space, utilizing smaller-scale power resources, and converting Bitcoin mining farms. It plans to deploy 75 megawatts of computing power by 2027. Amidst CoreWeave's stock price plummeting to a near 12-month low and Elon Musk's prediction of consolidation and elimination of over 200 new cloud service providers, Finn Puklowski, co-founder and CEO of General Compute, believes that market concerns about a chip-induced industry collapse are severely exaggerated, and that current customer demand for various chips and computing power remains strong.
