[Survey: Hong Kong Residents' Willingness to Use AI Rises to 77.5%, Over Half Still Worried About Job Replacement] Golden Finance reported on October 27th that City University of Hong Kong (CityU) released a survey on the social impact of AI. Led by Chair Professor Wong Yi-wai of the Department of Media and Communication at CityU, the study included three longitudinal online surveys spanning 18 months. The latest survey, conducted from May to July 2026, interviewed 1,362 residents aged 20 and above, and tracked 398 participants across all three surveys. The results showed that the percentage of respondents with a higher willingness to use AI rose from 67.4% at the beginning of 2025 to 77.5% in mid-2026, an increase of 10.1 percentage points. However, 53.7% remained quite worried about their jobs being replaced by AI, roughly the same as the previous year. Among them, 61.3% were aged 20-34, 60.6% held a bachelor's degree, and 56.6% were from families with a monthly income of HK$30,000 to HK$60,000. In healthcare, 57.6% are willing to use AI for health management, but only 34.5% use it frequently. Regarding clinical diagnosis, 62.5% support "doctor-led, AI-assisted," higher than "independent doctor diagnosis" (59.5%) and "AI-led, doctor-reviewed" (48.2%), while only 24.9% trust "independent AI diagnosis." The Labour and Welfare Bureau's Mid-Term Manpower Forecast Update released in September predicts that 20% to 30% of local jobs may face restructuring.
