[CityU Survey: Hong Kong Residents' Willingness to Use AI Rises to 77.5%, Over Half Still Worried About Job Replacement] According to a report by PR Newswire on October 27th, City University of Hong Kong released a survey on the social impact of artificial intelligence. The survey shows that Hong Kong residents' willingness to use AI rose from 67.4% in early 2025 to 77.5% in mid-2026, an increase of 10.1 percentage points. However, 53.7% of respondents remain quite worried about their jobs being replaced by AI, a proportion roughly the same as the previous year. The survey was led by Professor Wong Yi-wai, Chair Professor of the Department of Media and Communication at CityU. The team conducted three rounds of longitudinal online surveys from February to April 2025, December 2025 to February 2026, and May to July 2026. The latest round interviewed 1,362 Hong Kong residents aged 20 or above, and analyzed the longitudinal sample of 398 participants from all three rounds. The results showed that 61.3% of respondents aged 20 to 34 were concerned about job security, 60.6% of bachelor's degree holders worried about being replaced by AI, and 56.6% of middle-income citizens with a monthly income of HK$30,000 to HK$60,000 expressed similar concerns. Regarding medical applications, most citizens accepted AI assisting in personal health management, but clinical diagnostic decisions still tend to be led by doctors.
