Alibaba, Tencent, and ByteDance are seeking long-term DRAM supply agreements with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, some extending to 2035. According to South Korean media outlet Maeil Business Newspaper, major Chinese cloud service providers (CSPs) such as Alibaba, Tencent, and ByteDance are in talks with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix regarding long-term DRAM supply agreements (LTAs). These agreements are typically for 3 to 5 years, but some customers are requesting 10-year agreements extending to 2035. The procurement needs cover DDR and low-power LPDDR for servers. LPDDR is widely used in smartphones and can improve the energy efficiency of AI servers. The report states that these manufacturers are prioritizing securing supply volumes despite high prices due to tight memory supply. Previously, US tech giants secured memory supplies through LTAs.
