[Chinese Team Sets World Record for 3.2Pb/s Real-Time Fiber Transmission, Nearly 30% Speed Increase in One Year] According to Science and Technology Daily, the National Key Laboratory of Optical Communication Technology and Networks of China Information and Communication Technologies Group (CICT), in conjunction with Pengcheng Laboratory and Fiberhome Fujikura Fiber Optic Technology Co., Ltd., completed a 3.2Pb/s real-time bidirectional transmission experiment using multi-core optical fiber, setting a new world record for single-fiber bidirectional real-time optical transmission capacity. This speed surpasses the 2.5Pb/s record set earlier this year by the same team, representing an improvement of nearly 30%, equivalent to downloading over 20,000 4K movies per second, or providing gigabit broadband to 3.2 million households simultaneously. The experiment used 10.3 kilometers of 24-core multi-core optical fiber, combining S+C+L three-band multiplexing and space-division multiplexing technologies. The capacity limit of a traditional C+L band commercial single-core G.652 optical fiber is approximately 100Tb/s; the total capacity of this system's single fiber is 32 times that.
