[Alibaba, Tencent, and ByteDance Reportedly Seeking Long-Term DRAM Contracts from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, Some Requesting Supply Until 2035] According to a report by Jinse Finance on October 27th, citing South Korea's Maeil Business Newspaper, industry sources indicate that major Chinese cloud service providers (CSPs) such as Alibaba, Tencent, and ByteDance are in talks with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix regarding long-term DRAM supply agreements (LTAs) for servers. The report states that LTA terms are typically 3 to 5 years, with some customers requesting ultra-long-term contracts extending to 2035, a period of 10 years. The requested DRAM types are server-grade DDR and low-power DDR (LPDDR). The report analyzes that major US tech companies have previously secured storage capacity through LTAs, and Chinese CSPs are following suit in their business expansion. The energy efficiency requirements of AI servers, coupled with tight storage supply, are prompting server manufacturers to include LPDDR in their procurement, prioritizing capacity even at the cost of price pressure.
