Holy crap, ETH has been disproven! But not ethereum:native!!! OpenAI claims to have overturned the "Exponential Time Hypothesis" (ETH), a hypothesis used by the computer science community for nearly 30 years. This is a crucial assumption upon which hundreds of computer science papers have built their conclusions over the past few decades. AI not only provides a new algorithm but also incorporates the proof into Lean, allowing computers to formally verify it. How can an average person understand this? You can think of it as cracking a super complex combination lock. With each additional digit in the password, the number of possible combinations increases by tens or even hundreds of times. Scientists have long believed that classic problems like the 3-SAT, in the worst-case scenario, inevitably involve near-exponential computational costs. Now, OpenAI's AI has found a theoretically faster path, directly challenging this computational speed floor that has been believed for decades. If this result ultimately holds true, what will be the impact? First, hundreds of papers that relied on ETH to derive computational difficulty may need to be re-examined. Algorithmic research in fields such as graph theory, databases, and computational biology may also open up new avenues for exploration. PS: This has absolutely no impact on encryption!!!
