Today's (October 27th) A-share market can be summed up in one sentence: A gap-up opening was bait, low trading volume revealed the truth, individual stocks were bleeding, and there was no hope of a bottom yet?
The opening did offer some hope: All three major indices opened higher, with the Shanghai Composite Index slightly up and the ChiNext Index rising 0.89%. Over 2700 stocks were in positive territory, with communication equipment and semiconductors leading the gains.
Hope was dashed mid-day: The three major indices quickly turned negative. The number of declining stocks rapidly increased to over 2900.
Trading volume was a fatal signal:
In the first hour of trading, the combined turnover of the two exchanges shrank by 102.6 billion yuan. Institutions predict that the total turnover for the day will only be 1.48 trillion yuan, even lower than yesterday.
A gap-up opening followed by a decline, coupled with low volume and widespread stock losses, is a classic "bull trap" structure. The initial surge at the open made those who bought the dip yesterday think a rebound had arrived, then the market quickly turned negative, burying those who chased the rally.
Trading volume continues to shrink, indicating a lack of new capital entering the market; existing investors are essentially scrambling to fill their own pockets.
So where is the money going?
Let's look at the overall market funds: a net outflow of 14.9 billion yuan! Net outflows for several consecutive days!
Data from Guojin Securities reveals a starkly contrasting picture:
The national team is using ETFs to prop up the index, with the CSI 300, ChiNext, and STAR Market 50 being the main inflows.
Leveraged funds are cutting losses and leaving the market; margin trading saw a net outflow of 57 billion yuan last week, with electronics, communications, and new energy sectors being the hardest hit.
Meanwhile, foreign capital is quietly accumulating shares, with northbound funds resuming net buying, mainly flowing into electronics, computers, and pharmaceuticals.
What should you be looking at?
We shouldn't focus on whether the index is up or down today; we should focus on when trading volume will recover.
A trading volume of 1.48 trillion yuan cannot support any sustained rebound. Unless volume increases significantly, today's high opening is a prelude to tomorrow's low opening.
Don't chase the high opening; wait for volume. Buying at the bottom is just about betting on a rebound after a sharp drop; remember to take profits later and don't overthink it.
