[Osmosis Community Passes Proposal to Cease OSMO Inflationary Issuance and Shift to Protocol Revenue Distribution] According to TechFlow, on October 27th, the Osmosis governance page showed that proposal number 1053, "Terminate OSMO Inflationary Issuance," was passed on October 26th with a 91.07% approval rate and a 65.38% participation rate.
Following the proposal's passage, Osmosis will cease issuing new OSMO tokens. Staking rewards and community funds will no longer receive new tokens, and staking rewards will rely entirely on protocol revenue, including transaction fees. Simultaneously, the daily unlocking and release of approximately 30,440 OSMO for developers will be suspended. The remaining approximately 51.9 million OSMO will remain in developers' designated module accounts, and future release will require separate governance approval.
The proposal states that ceasing issuance will eliminate dilution from new supply and directly reduce the token supply through the burning of transaction fees and ProtoRev revenue. Although the approximately 2 percentage point contribution of the additional share issuance to the annualized collateralized yield (APR) will disappear, the proposal anticipates that the loss of some of the returns will be offset by the approximately 1.7 percentage point additional APR resulting from the increased allocation of transaction fees under Proposal 1052.
