On October 26, 2026, OpenAI announced that its model had provided natural language proofs for three long-pending results, which had not yet been independently verified. The three results are: local smoothness related to the Kakeya conjecture, the false exponential time hypothesis, and the existence of quantum chromodynamics and the Standard Model completeness. The Yang–Mills existence proof was generated on September 9th, but its release was postponed to October 16th after the Lean formalization of this result was completed. Commentators with a background in complexity theory believe that the overturning of ETH has the greatest impact because it is the cornerstone of many difficulties and lower bound results.
