The People's Bank of China (PBOC) has intervened again to rescue the market. Is the A-share market saved this time? The PBOC just launched a new tool called BNSF. The name is convoluted, but the meaning is straightforward: emergency relief, not a safety net. Its full name is "Non-bank Large-Scale Redemption Swap Facility in the Bond Market." In reality, the PBOC isn't rescuing the stock market, but the bond market; it's not protecting retail investors, but funds. The bond market crash triggered a redemption frenzy, forcing funds to sell at a loss. The PBOC now allows them to use bonds as collateral to borrow central bank bills to cover redemptions, preventing further market collapse. However, this money isn't free. The PBOC has drawn a red line: excessively speculative institutions are excluded from the bailout. This is about rescuing the market, not the institutions. So, is the A-share market saved? In the short term, the bond market's stability means the A-share market avoids a major liability, providing some reassurance. In the long term, however, don't misunderstand. The central bank is preventing systemic risks, not creating a bull market for you. Therefore, I believe this rebound in A-shares is an oversold bounce, not a reversal. Remember to take profits when you can. Policy bottoms and sentiment bottoms often differ significantly from the true bottom of market capitalization. Are the stocks you hold driven by sentiment or are you waiting for earnings bottoms?
