Morgan Stanley Raises US Data Center Power Shortage Forecast to 38GW, Still Bullish on Nvidia and Broadcom BlockBeats reports that on October 26th, Nvidia's stock opened higher and continued to rise, with its share price surging over 3% at one point, pushing its market capitalization to $5.23 trillion. Morgan Stanley's latest research report raised its forecast for the US data center net power shortage from 33GW to 38GW between 2026 and 2028, noting that ASIC chips may face market share losses compared to GPUs in the face of limited power supply. Regarding semiconductor investment, Morgan Stanley remains most bullish on Nvidia and Broadcom (whose shares rose over 3.2%), citing reasons including relatively conservative earnings guidance, chip shipment visibility, expansion outside the US, and Nvidia's higher token output per watt. Morgan Stanley points out that the market is attempting to match its 2027 forecast of $1.5 trillion and 2028 forecasts for data center capital expenditures with actual power supply capacity. If data center construction is suspended or slowed down, downstream components such as storage and optical modules, as well as power management and analog chips, may be more severely impacted by over-ordering triggered by previous shortages.
