Netanyahu Considers Cryptocurrency as a Countermeasure to Potential Bank Sanctions
In an interview today, Netanyahu stated that Israel may face bank sanctions and is considering establishing alternative payment channels using cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, having already requested the preparation of plans. This comes after the UK, France, and Canada announced restrictions on imports from West Bank settlements.
However, the Central Bank of Israel opposes this idea, arguing that the government should strive to avoid sanctions and maintain relations with key trading partners. Personally, I believe Netanyahu's thinking may be influenced by the US, Iran, and Russia, especially Trump.
It's well known that the US has been at the forefront of the cryptocurrency field, and Trump and the Republican Party also hope to promote cryptocurrency development in the US. While Trump is unreliable, the current SEC and CFTC have been very effective in promoting cryptocurrency development. Given Netanyahu's recent close ties with the US, it's not surprising that he's taking actions more aligned with Trump's policies.
Moreover, in terms of being sanctioned, Russia and Iran have provided sufficient examples. Iran has already started using bitcoin:native and stablecoins to collect "robbery fees," and Russia accepted Bitcoin and oil transactions a long time ago.
