[Global Central Bank "Super Week": US, Europe, and Japan Expected to Hold Rates Steady; Canada and Singapore May Raise Rates by Another 25 Basis Points] Golden Finance reports that this week, the world's five major central banks will announce their interest rate decisions. The market widely expects the Federal Reserve to maintain the federal funds rate unchanged on Wednesday, with only a 10% chance of a 25 basis point rate hike, but a higher chance of a December rate hike. The European Central Bank is expected to keep its deposit rate at 2.50% on Thursday. The Bank of Japan is expected to keep its policy rate unchanged at 1.25% at its two-day meeting ending on October 30. Meanwhile, the market expects an 81% probability of the Bank of Canada raising rates by 25 basis points to 2.50% on Wednesday, and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand may raise rates by 25 basis points to 3.0% on the same day. On the data front, Japan's core CPI, excluding fresh food, rose 2.1% year-on-year in September, exceeding the 2% target for the first time in nine months, higher than August's 1.7%; the core CPI, excluding fresh food and energy, rose 2.4% year-on-year, higher than August's 1.9%. Chris Weston, head of research at Pepperstone, said that forward guidance may be more important than the decision itself, and the key is how policymakers shape expectations for subsequent meetings.
