Another war has broken out. And so, some people jump out again, expertly shouting those two words: "Safe haven." Buy gold! Buy Bitcoin!
And then what? Today, gold hit a three-week low, and Bitcoin fell below $80,000.
Because war is never a safe-haven event; it's an inflationary event. When oil prices rise, interest rates don't come down; and when interest rates don't come down, your leveraged positions will have to pay the installment bills for this war.
Trump himself said that high oil prices are a "small cost." Yes, a small cost. It's just that this small cost isn't on his shoulders, but on yours.
I'm not bearish on war. I'm bearish on the phrase "war is bullish for cryptocurrencies": every round, someone uses "safe haven" to lure you in, and every round, the bill is paid on the same group of people.
