The lab will receive support from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind, with OpenAI and Anthropic providing up to £200 million worth of AI model usage. The lab will also collaborate with Google DeepMind and life sciences company Basecamp Research. In addition, the UK government announced £65 million for pathogen response research, an additional £120 million for the AI Security Institute, an additional £23 million for the AI Economics Institute, and £130 million to leverage AI to strengthen cybersecurity in critical infrastructure.
