Commodities vs. Democrats' Near 63% Shot at the Senate With Kalshi at about 63% on Oct. 25 for Democrats to take control of the Senate after the midterm elections, the prediction market may be signaling a typical political shift with deflationary implications for commodities. My graphic highlights the close connection between this Kalshi metric and record-setting diesel prices. If Democrats take control of the legislative branch, it would mean push back on the war in Iran and proliferation of AI, while reinstituting some checks and balances that were lacking as gold surged in 2025. Trump administration tariffs have underpinned US-traded copper, contributing to its status as a top stock puppet. If stocks drop, it might be all that matters. WTI crude oil near $100 a barrel -- roughly double the US breakeven production cost -- could revert toward $50. Gold may keep reverting toward longer-term moving averages near $3,000 an ounce.
