[Apollo Chief Economist: AI Has Not Yet Yielded Returns for US Companies Outside the Tech Sector] According to Jinse Finance, on October 25th, Torsten Slok, Chief Economist at Apollo Global Management, stated that despite massive investments in artificial intelligence (AI), it has yet to deliver any real returns for US companies outside the tech sector. Slok wrote, "Employee earnings per employee at the Big Seven tech giants are increasing, but this metric is flat for the other 493 companies in the S&P 500." The same trend is observed in corporate profit margins; there are currently no signs that AI is driving productivity growth. Slok stated, "Major US companies are scaling back their investments and beginning to view AI-related spending as a cost center rather than a source of growth, as these expenditures are squeezing profit margins." With earnings season underway, investors are closely watching corporate AI spending and whether these investments will yield the expected returns. Last week, Meta was the first to announce related news in the tech sector's earnings reports, indicating plans to bet more aggressively on AI and increase capital expenditures. This statement triggered market unease, causing Meta's stock price to fall and its credit risk index to rise to a record high. (Golden Ten)
