[Solana Co-founder Toly Proposes Validator Stake-Weighted Oracle, Intending to Mint New SOL] According to Jinse Finance, on October 25th, Anatoly Yakovenko (codename Toly), co-founder of Solana, published an article on X proposing an early concept for a "validator stake-weighted oracle." The mechanism involves Solana validators acting as price referees, voting in weighted proportions to their staked SOL to price tokenized collateral. The system would then mint new SOL to facilitate network transactions and tax related profits to increase network revenue. This concept follows the Alpenglow upgrade on October 21st (which improved transaction finality to approximately 150 milliseconds and streamlined validator voting). Currently, it is only a social media concept, an informal governance proposal, with no voting arrangements or implementation timeline. Potential controversies include: minting new SOL alters the supply, requiring persuasion of holders that the new issuance is for security assurance rather than dilution; validators simultaneously controlling security and pricing raises incentive and manipulation risks; and it could potentially compete with or complement existing oracles such as Pyth and RedStone.
