I've reviewed Futu Securities' cryptocurrency custody and storage methods:
1. Custody Location and Institutions
Futu Securities itself does not directly hold or custody clients' cryptocurrencies.
Clients' virtual assets are custodied by Virtual Asset Trading Platforms (VATPs) licensed by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission.
The primary platform is Cheetah Trading, built by Futu itself.
This platform obtained its VATP license in 2025, fully commenced operations in March 2026, and is deeply integrated with Futu Securities, responsible for trade matching, asset custody, and technical support.
Early/partial trading is also conducted through licensed platforms such as Hash Blockchain Limited.
Assets are held in trust, and client wallets are strictly segregated from the company's own wallets.
2. Storage Method
Qualified hot and cold storage facilities are used: Hot wallets are used for daily trading and liquidity deposits and withdrawals. Cold storage is used for the long-term secure custody of most assets.
Orders are routed to third-party licensed exchanges for execution, with the exchange acting as custodian, and assets are stored in regulatory-compliant hot and cold storage; Futu itself does not hold cryptocurrencies.
Fiat currency funds (HKD/USD) are held in segregated custody accounts at authorized banks, and are subject to the same asset segregation as securities assets.
