we’re thinking about moving our order system off Shopify and building our own. we want more control over how your data is encrypted, how long we keep it, and how it gets deleted. Shopify does a lot right, especially around fraud prevention and security. but we don’t have full control over the data. we can request that personal information be deleted, but we can’t guarantee every copy is gone for good. there’s no setting we can flip to change that. the part we still need to work out is warranty support, returns, and exchanges. if we delete the order records right away, we still need a reliable way to verify your purchase when you come back for help. you should be able to delete your data and still get support. ideally, you keep a proof of purchase that we can verify without having to keep your personal details on file. which option would you pick? vote below, or share your ideas in the comments.
