1/ Where are the boundaries between consciousness, thermodynamics, and computation? The human mind, brain, and conscious experience are essentially rooted in time and entropy. The second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of an isolated system will either increase or remain constant. Life, as an open system, must constantly combat disorder through the flow of energy in metabolism to maintain itself in a low-entropy state. 2/ Unlike computers, humans are beings existing within time, possessing bodies and embedded in the world they inhabit. Living beings are driven by time, and their core mechanism is to minimize unexpected events and maintain survival. The temporal limitations of classical digital computation—the arbitrary time intervals between states—are fundamentally incompatible with the rich, dynamic nature of consciousness. 3/ If consciousness is inseparable from physical time, it cannot simply be a product of algorithms. Therefore, AI systems relying on Turing computation will forever lack intelligent behavior rooted in the body and time; the prospect of AGI (Automatic Generative Intelligence) seems more like a fantasy. Consciousness may be the adaptive mechanism by which nature allows intelligent life to continue. 4/ We can introduce several core categories for comparison: Computation: Linear causal information transformation at the individual level, popularizing well-established knowledge from human experience using universal templates. Oracle: Noisy, nonlinear choices at the group level, representing the source of new experiences. 5/ Traditional reductionist science tends to pursue certainty, rejecting noise and group contributions. However, computation cannot solve the problem of "how experience comes about." New experiences precisely come from the choices made by the group during its survival process—that is, oracles. The current bottleneck in the field of computation is precisely because a large amount of useful human experience has already been incorporated into computation. 6/ As social, cultural beings, the evolution of human intelligence benefits from the iteration of group cultural attributes. The group continuously generates oracles and processes them into scientific computations, popularizing them to individuals, facilitating individuals to perceive new oracle feedback and create inventions. The disruptive nature of quantum theory in the last century lies in its research direction directly addressing the uncertain group attributes. 7/ Conclusion: Any single perspective is merely a limited summary of experience following an oracle. Given the limitations of computation, now is the time to revisit Turing's unfinished work, delve into the "oracle" as a means of integrating noise at the group level, and use this as a basis to examine complex group evolution models such as distributed consensus mechanisms.
