[Analysis: US Stock Market Breadth Improves Rapidly, S&P 500 Component Stocks Above 50-Day Moving Average Rise to 61%]
According to an article published on the X platform by The Kobeissi Letter, the latest market data shows that the breadth of the US stock market is rapidly improving. On October 23, the proportion of S&P 500 components with prices above their 50-day moving average rose 5 percentage points to 61%, a new high since mid-August, more than double the level at the intraday low on October 1.
Meanwhile, the proportion of components with prices above their 200-day moving average rose 3 percentage points to 57%, a new high since September 9, and a cumulative increase of 17 percentage points over the past three weeks. Although the S&P 500 index was basically flat during the same period, the improvement in market breadth is among the three largest in the past three years.
(Odaily Planet Daily) In addition, the S&P 500 fell 1.2% on October 22, but 335 of its components still closed higher, indicating that the coverage of rising stocks in the US stock market is expanding and the overall market performance may be stronger than reflected by the index.
