[Bitcoin Core Rewrites Security Policy: AI-Detectable Vulnerabilities No Longer Need for Secrecy] Jinse Finance reports that Bitcoin Core developers have modified how the software handles certain security vulnerabilities, acknowledging that AI has made some vulnerabilities easily discoverable, rendering continued secrecy meaningless. The project merged this policy update this Thursday (GitHub PR bitcoin-core/bitcoincore.org 1281), initiated earlier this month by Chaincode Labs developer Antoine Poinsot, due to a recent surge in reports of "easily rediscoverable" vulnerabilities. Poinsot stated that large language models have "significantly lowered" the barrier to discovering certain vulnerability classes or identifying quietly committed fixes in the code. The new policy addresses a core contradiction in disclosure policy: Bitcoin Core, which runs the majority of network nodes, has long favored long embedding periods, often keeping security fixes secret until the next major release; now, for vulnerabilities that can be discovered with a single AI alert, immediate backporting and release of fixes will be implemented, abandoning long-term secrecy.
