[Swell Suspends Deposits and Withdrawals of swETH and rswETH to Correct Inflated Exchange Rates] According to Jinse Finance, at 2:39 AM ET on October 23, Swell announced a suspension of deposits and withdrawals for its liquidity staking token swETH and restaking token rswETH until their net asset value (NAV) is corrected, without providing a reopening timeline. On-chain data shows that at 4:48 PM that day, the contract report showed swETH at approximately 1.203 ETH and rswETH at approximately 1.138 ETH, about 6% and 5% higher than the "clean" exchange rate (1.133 and 1.082) as determined by analyst Spreek; on the DEX, swETH was at approximately 1.089 WETH and rswETH at approximately 1.029 WETH, far below the contract values. Spreek stated that at 9:28 PM on October 21, the administrator keys of both tokens were suspected of being compromised, with NAV being inflated by up to 1% per hour (without endorsement). The attacker deployed four malicious upgrade contracts that could have extracted approximately 2513 ETH, but without Swell's multi-signature queue. Phylax Systems founder Odysseus described it as "bot key misuse," and the losses have not been confirmed. Cloud deployment platform Railway disclosed on the same day that it had not authorized any third party to read customers' encrypted environment variables. Swell stated that its funds are safe.
