Solidigm, a subsidiary of Hynix, suspends its listing
The storage demand brought by AI is still there, but the scale and speed of expansion depend on where the money comes from. On October 23rd, SK Hynix stopped reviewing the US IPO financing plan for its enterprise grade solid-state drive company Solidigm. The potential fundraising scale is about 15 billion US dollars.
According to SK Hynix, Solidigm's existing production capacity is limited and new production facilities are still needed in the United States. But recently, the volatility in the capital market has increased, and semiconductor stocks are also experiencing a pullback. At this time, the valuation of listed stocks may not be ideal. If the valuation is low, raising the same amount of money will require giving up a higher proportion of equity, which may not be cost-effective for the parent company and existing shareholders.
SK Hynix has previously evaluated investing directly in Solidigm. If the parent company takes more money in the future, SK Hynix will have to use its own cash and distribute it together with other investment projects and shareholder returns. If alternative funds are not available for a long time, the timing and scale of US production expansion may also need to be adjusted.
