Ethereum researchers propose to shorten the final confirmation time of transactions to 4 minutes, reducing the cost of cross chain capital occupation
On October 22nd, according to CoinDesk, Ethereum researchers proposed an upgrade draft that plans to shorten the final confirmation time of transactions from the current about 16 minutes to about 4 minutes, in order to reduce the capital occupation cost of cross chain transfer services. The proposal was submitted by Ben Edgington, the coordinator of the rapid final confirmation research, and is currently in the draft stage with no specific implementation schedule. This plan intends to split the validator voting mechanism used to determine new blocks and confirm old blocks, so that the final confirmation process can be independently accelerated. Researchers also suggest that this design is expected to facilitate the introduction of anti quantum signature mechanisms in the future. However, the timing of voting, punishment mechanism, and some security analysis still need to be improved. In contrast, Solana's Alpenglow upgrade aims to shorten the final confirmation time to approximately 150 milliseconds.
