[UK AI Companies Warn: Government Has a 12-Month Window to Address Data Center Protests] According to Deep Tide TechFlow on October 22, as reported by *The Guardian*, the Sovereign AI Leadership (SAIL) task force—comprising companies such as Nvidia, Microsoft, and Cisco—has submitted recommendations to the UK government, stating that the country has approximately 12 months to address public opposition to data centers. Failure to do so could lead to protest waves similar to those in the United States, threatening project developments. The task force highlighted that consecutive dry summers and rising energy bills are intensifying public scrutiny of data centers. SAIL has urged the government to establish a "Community Prosperity Compact," providing a unified framework for local governments and mayors to define the local benefits of data centers. This includes setting financial or infrastructure contributions based on project scale and allowing local councils hosting data centers to retain more tax revenue. Microsoft previously pledged to invest $30 billion in AI infrastructure in the UK. It has already built a data center in Acton, London, and is currently constructing a project in Newport.
