[Trump: Data Center Companies Should Pay 'Dividends' to Local Communities] According to Reuters, U.S. President Trump stated on Truth Social on Wednesday that companies building data centers should pay 'dividends' to the communities where they are located if they want their projects to gain local support. He noted that some data centers, initially unpopular in their local areas, became very well-received after reaching financial agreements. Trump also mentioned that he has requested newly built large-scale data centers to establish their own power facilities, with excess electricity supplied or sold to local communities or the grid. In February, he proposed that large tech companies must build their own power plants for data centers to prevent consumer electricity bills from rising. Data centers, which consume significant amounts of water and electricity, have become a political controversy in many parts of the U.S. Additionally, Anthropic recently announced it would allocate 5% of its shares to establish a 'public interest' fund, while Musk pledged to give 'every child in America' one share of SpaceX stock.
