[Dragonfly Partner Haseeb: A 'COVID-like wave' of attacks is emerging in cybersecurity, with the crypto industry being the first to bear the brunt]
Dragonfly Managing Partner Haseeb Qureshi wrote that a 'COVID-like wave' of attacks is emerging in the field of cybersecurity. He believes that on-chain hacking incidents are the 'canary in the coal mine' for cybersecurity, as the blockchain is the easiest place for cyberattacks to be monetized. Citing data from DefiLlama Research, he noted that the number of on-chain hacking incidents has surged dramatically, but the annualized scale of stolen funds is roughly equivalent to that of 2025, with losses per incident decreasing. He stated that most small protocols have already been breached, while large protocols are leveraging AI tools to strengthen their defenses. He predicts that similar trends will occur in the broader internet landscape.
