DeepTech TechFlow reports that on October 22, according to The Information, a senior official from OpenAI expressed in a letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom that the company supports requiring AI companies to implement shutdown mechanisms for their models, undergo mandatory annual independent audits, and adopt stricter cybersecurity measures. The letter, dated Tuesday, was signed by Chan Park, OpenAI's Head of Policy and Partnerships for the U.S. and Canada. The letter stated that OpenAI "recommends strengthening the SB53 bill." The bill, which is California's existing AI transparency law passed in 2025, currently requires cutting-edge AI companies to disclose safety frameworks, transparency reports, and report major safety incidents. Additionally, OpenAI supports regulations mandating that companies' "safety frameworks explicitly cover the capability of frontier models to autonomously conduct AI research and development." (Jin10)
