[Community Banks Warn Stablecoin Adoption Could Reduce Loans by at Least $850 Billion, ABA and ICBA Criticize OCC Rules] Odaily Planet Daily News: On October 21, the American Bankers Association (ABA) and the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) criticized the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for implementing the final rules of the GENIUS Act. They argued that the restrictions on stablecoin rewards are insufficient and could divert traditional bank deposits, thereby weakening the lending capacity of community banks. ICBA stated that its economic analysis indicates that if payment-based stablecoins become widely adopted, the future scale of community bank loans could decrease by at least $850 billion. This figure represents a scenario forecast proposed by the association and is not an achieved result. ABA noted that the OCC removed proposed safeguards regarding indirect income arrangements for stablecoins, which involve affiliates, exchanges, and other distribution partners. The OCC's final rules cover standards for stablecoin reserves, redemption, custody, and risk management. (Bitcoin.com News)
