By Wednesday night, U.S. tech stocks finally caught a breather, with the Nasdaq up about 1.2% intraday. Bitcoin:native also climbed to $84,000, and the main driver behind the rebound in tech stocks and AI was SpaceX's earnings report. After the report, SpaceX surged nearly 7% intraday, while Nvidia rose more than 2%. AMD also jumped over 9% during the session today.
Over the past week or so, the most frustrating thing about AI and semiconductors has been the fear that pouring money into them might not yield returns anytime soon. Companies borrowing money to build data centers and buy chips might eventually burn out. SpaceX's latest earnings report, which exceeded expectations, gave AI a much-needed boost. While it was still losing money operationally last quarter, this quarter it has turned profitable. Concerns about continued expansion eased a bit, and chip demand gained some confidence as well.
Oil prices and interest rates, on the other hand, haven’t changed much. Iran is still saying it’s willing to negotiate, but only if it’s not under the threat of sanctions. This morning, Brent briefly surged past $110, while WTI hovered around $97. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield is at 5.11%, and the market remains pessimistic about both oil and the Fed.
Next up is Tesla’s post-market earnings report. Musk also mentioned today that SpaceX has taken steps toward considering a merger with Tesla, which is definitely something for everyone to mull over. Meanwhile, Bitcoin is still maintaining its dual-token strategy. This afternoon, it was bought at $80,500, though the transaction probability is low. Earning 10% interest isn’t bad either.
